Nuestra primera exposici\u00f3n \u00abTirando del Ovillo by Mundo Lanar: restauraciones, instalaciones y grafitis lanares\u00bb en el Centro de Visitantes del Parque Nacional de Guadarrama (Cercedilla-Madrid) llega a su f\u00edn. Y ni que decir tiene que lo hemos disfrutado much\u00edsimo, tanto con el proceso creativo, el montaje y la inaguraci\u00f3n, como con el centro de visitantes y los viajes tan chulos que hemos tenido que hacer desde el Valle del Lozoya hasta Cercedilla, atravesando el puerto de Navacerrada. Incluido el d\u00eda que tuvimos que poner las cadenas en medio de una ventisca hist\u00f3rica<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Our first exhibit \u00abPulling the Ball: restorations, installations and graffitis\u00bb in the Visitor Center of the National Park of Guadarrama (Cercedilla-Madrid) is coming to it\u00b4s end. And needless to say that we have thoroughly enjoyed both the creative process, assembly and the inauguration, as well as with the visitor center and the travel from the Lozoya\u00b4s Valey to Cercedilla, through the Navacerrada port road. Including the day we had to put the strings in the car in the middle of a historic blizzard<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Los materiales<\/h3>\n

La elecci\u00f3n de los materiales ha sido uno de las cosas m\u00e1s gratificantes. Lo que ten\u00edamos claro es que la lana era la materia prima que deb\u00eda destacar, aunque en lugar de concebirla como elemento expositivo, lo que hemos hecho ha sido emplearla como soporte expositivo<\/strong> de un empecinador, un cencerro, unas tijeras, un jab\u00f3n, unas cardenchas, un huso y una naveta, elementos que simbolizan el \u00abproceso de la lana\u00bb desde el pastoreo de las ovejas hasta que el vell\u00f3n de lana pasa a convertirse en un textil. De manera que, junto a la lana y tras barajar varias alternativas, decidimos elegir materiales econ\u00f3micos y que nos permitieran desarrollar un concepto rural vivo de la lana, en contraposici\u00f3n con la t\u00edpica estampa muse\u00edstica de esta maravillosa fibra relegada a cosa del pasado. Volil\u00e1! Antiguedades, lana, clavos y tablas!<\/strong><\/p>\n

The materials<\/span><\/h3>\n

The choice of the materials has been one of the most rewarding things. What was clear for us is that the wool had to be the raw material that should predominate. Instead we decided to conceive it as the exhibition item, so what we have done is use it as the support<\/strong>, in this case of a sheep marker, a cowbell, a scissors, a soap, some thistles, a spindle and a shuttle, which symbolize the \u00abprocess of wool\u00bb: from the sheep grazing in the fields, until the wool becomes a textile. So, together with the wool and after considering several alternatives, we decided to choose inexpensive materials which could enable us to develop a rural concept of the wool, at the same time as a modern approach of the fiber capable to propose it as a real option for modern textiles, versus the typical picture of the wool relegated to a piece of museum. El concepto<\/h3>\n

Teniendo en cuenta el contexto expositivo (Centro de Visitantes del Parque Nacional) no pod\u00edamos ser excesivamente art\u00edsticos, aunque no vamos a negar que tuvimos la tentaci\u00f3n. M\u00e1s que nada porque la exposici\u00f3n deb\u00eda cumplir una cierta funci\u00f3n divulgativa. Entonces surgi\u00f3 la idea de combinar el proceso de la lana<\/strong>, empleando elementos representativos de cada una de las fases, con algo tan actual como son los grafitis lanares<\/strong> y lo que hemos venido a llamar restauraciones lanares<\/strong>: rellenar con lana los huecos y desgastes ocasionados por el uso y el paso del tiempo de piezas de inter\u00e9s etnogr\u00e1fico (damajuana, trilla y criba). Y todo ello con el objetivo de ambientar el proceso de la lana con objetos cotidianos t\u00edpicos de una \u00e9poca en la que el aprovechamiento de los recursos en el medio rurual era el estilo de vida prodominante. Y, a modo de contrapunto, hemos querido emplear aplicaciones modernas a fin de reflexionar acerca del presente, pasado y futuro de una fibra con algo m\u00e1s que historia<\/i><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The concept<\/span><\/h3>\n

Considering the exhibition context (Visitor Center) was clear that we could not be excessively artistic, mostly because the exposure had to meet as well an informative function. This way it came the idea of \u200b\u200bcombining the process of wool<\/strong> (using representative elements of each of the phases) with something as current as the graffitis<\/strong> (in this case with undyed carded wool) and what we have come to call \u00abwool restorations\u00bb<\/strong>, which consists on selecting pieces with an ethnographic interest (old glass jar, threshing and sieving, important, in poor condition) and to fill with wool (by means of different techniques) all the holes caused by deterioration. The idea with this was to acclimate the process of the wool with everyday items typical of an era in which the rural life together with rational use of resource were the rule. And accompany it with modern applications with the idea to provoke the reflection on the past, present and future of a fiber with something more than mere history.<\/strong><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

El proceso de la lana<\/h3>\n

La idea de representar el proceso de la lana parte de uno de los talleres que habitualmente damos y cuyo objetivo no es otro que reflexionar acerca de los pasos que han sido necesarios para poder vestir una prenda de lana<\/strong>. Y no es una cuesti\u00f3n balad\u00ed! Es f\u00e1cil escuchar que los ni\u00f1os de hoy en d\u00eda no saben de donde vienen las cosas, y que parece que salen de la nevera como por arte de magia. Y no somos conscientes de la cantidad de procesos que a los adultos nos resultan ajenos y que hasta hace no tantas d\u00e9cadas han permanecido vivos. As\u00ed, exposiciones como \u00e9sta no solo tratan de poner en valor una fibra textil con tantas potencialidades como tiene la lana, sino invitar a la reflexi\u00f3n acerca del origen de las cosas y la forma en que \u00e9stas nos ligan a una Naturaleza y Oficios de los que cada vez estamos m\u00e1s desconectados<\/strong>! The process of the wool<\/span><\/h3>\n

The idea of \u200b\u200brepresenting the process of wool comes from one of the workshops that we regularly give and whose goal is to think about the steps that have been required to wear a woolen garment<\/strong>. And it is not a trivial matter! It’s easy to hear that kids today do not know the origin of the things (even foods like milk), and that seems to them that they are produced by art of magic. And sometimes, as adults, we are not aware of how many processes that are completely unknown for us, and we are not refering to ancient knowledge but to things which have remained alive until not so many decades ago (sometimes only one or two generations). Thus, exhibitions like this do not just try to give value to textile fibers with so much potential for sustainability of the planet, but also invite to the reflection about the origin of the things and the way that we are linking to Nature and the Crafts.
